Stories and useful information to fight this brain tumor
What is glioblastoma?
Glioblastoma also known as glioblastoma multiforme or with the acronym GBM is the most common and most aggressive among brain cancers.
Composed of a heterogeneous set of tumor cells, glioblastoma mainly affects adults and usually occurs in the cerebral hemispheres, less frequently in the brain stem or spinal cord. Like all brain tumors, except in very rare cases, it does not expand beyond the structures of the central nervous system.
Glioblastoma is frequently manifested as a primary tumor, ie directly and not as an effect of other tumors. The traditional treatment of glioblastoma includes surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
It is thought that this tumor is of stem origin and there are some experimental therapies. It is difficult to treat and there are few cases of survival beyond three years.
On this site managed by the Voluntary Organization Glioblastoma.IT ODV, you will find useful information on therapies, research, treatment centers, ways to access experimental therapies as well as curiosity and some stories of patients and family members who have experienced and fought this cancer,
