Videoconference “Therapeutic Cannabis in the Treatment of Glioblastoma”
The seventh conference of the voluntary organization Glioblastoma.IT ODV, the second in 2023 was held successfully. It saw the participation of about 80 people through the different channels. It was held in Italian. Very animated as usual and in this case I would say even more than usual the question and answer session. We thank all the participants and in particular Prof. Massimo Nabissi of the University of Camerino, whose talk was about clinical and pre-clinical evidence in the use of phytocannabinoids in the treatment of glioblastoma, and Dr. Vittorio Andrea Guardamagna of the European Institute of Oncology whose talk was about the use of medicinal cannabis in oncology and presented several case studies. The extensive question and answer session made it possible to shed light on some aspects of interest to the participants and included the discussion of the case of Gianpaolo Bertos, a doctor who is assisting his wife and has successfully used cannabinoids associated with the standard of care. For convenience of access we include below the video of the registration for those who have not yet managed to participate.
Enjoy!
For those who don’t have time to view the recording, this is a brief summary of the main take aways. Therapeutic cannabis is useful for the treatment of glioblastoma. The cannabinoids present in cannabis could slow the growth of cancer cells and reduce cerebral edema especially if used in the early stages of the disease. However, it is important to note that most of the studies are pre-clinical in nature and therefore more research is needed to determine in which cases and in which ways cannabinoids can be used and combined with the standard of care to maximize treatment efficacy.
To all of you, our dearest wishes for a Happy Easter!
